‘I can't even sit in my backyard with my own dog anymore’: Neighbor's dog continually jumps into homeowner's yard and they refuse to do anything about it

Dogs are one of the most precious species on the planet, but we still don't want dogs that don't belong to us on our property all the time. This is especially true if you have your own dog, who is quite fearful of being around other pups. No hate to the doggos of the world, their owners are the ones to blame for obstructive behavior.

Property disputes always start the same way: Neighbor does something entitled, doesn't recognize they did something entitled, then refuses to apologize for said entitled behavior. It's a toxic cycle that affects the people who have to come into contact with this behavior.

In this next story, a neighbor's dog repeatedly jumps into the yard of another resident, and the neighbor refuses to find a solution to this issue. This is a classic case of "If it doesn't affect me, then it doesn't matter" mentality. They'll happily allow their pup to help themselves to the resident's greenery and their dog's personal space, so long as they aren't feeling the effects of a scorned resident. Well, they might be feeling that very soon…

    "Neighbor keeps letting their dog jump into my yard"

    I'm single woman homeowner living no-HOA neighborhood...I've been friendly and patient with my next-door neighbors for almost three years living here, but their dog has jumped into my fully fenced yard at least 15+ without my permission and into other neighbors yards.

    These people have kids my age and are acting like this!! I even ask one of the adults living their if the leash is broken and she played dumb checking it and said she has no idea how it escaped because it's not broken.

    Spiritual_Try1549 Some people just don't care. It's all about them. I have a different situation but understand your frustration. All I can say is you tried. I wouldn't worry if the dog gets out and roams the neighbor hood. Talk to you other neighbors and all of you together call it in.

    Snarky_Survivor Thank you for saying that. I really tried and gave them chances to fix it I think that's what most normal people would. It's basic human decency. However, the lack of shame and audacity are almost impressive at this point. My other neighbors are elderly I should check in with them. The dog has jumped into one of their yards and I couldn't just watch it run wild/jumping on their senior dog so I had to yell for my nextdoor neighbor husband to come out and go get his dog.

    Cahokanut This is clearly a problem and many have given advice that all ends in a bunch of time and money spent plus bad relationship with your neighbor. For me. The price of sharing a new higher fence would be worth it. As a friendly neighbor can be very useful. To your happiness, safety, and property.

    Dexterdacerealki a I agree about getting a taller fence, I don't agree about splitting the cost with the neighbor. They've already proven themselves to be a nightmare to deal with. Not only would I not trust them to pay their part, but let's say they do. If their dog destroys the fence that you've both gone in on, you're pretty much SOL. If the dog destroys the fence that you've paid for on your own it's actually going to be easier to get them to cover your costs. You don't want any additional o
